Life is like a floating cloud which appears.

Death is like a floating cloud which disappears.

The floating cloud itself originally does not exist.

Life and death, coming and going, are also like that.

But there is one thing which always remains clear.

It is pure and clear, not depending on life or death.

Then what is the one pure and clear thing?

Zen Master Seung Sahn

Meet Steve Berg

I have been teaching Zen style meditation since my teacher, Zen Master Dae Gak, formally gave me his permission to teach in 2003. Of course anyone can do any type of meditation they like. But Zen Meditation focuses upon being in the moment, not trying to achieve anything. Americans are trained from birth to accomplish things. This is OK, but when we are thinking about achieving something, we are not in the moment.  Focusing on a goal that we would like to achieve can make us less open to notice the unexpected. We may become so focused that we fail to notice the incredible beauty around us. Beautiful clouds and caterpillars and beautiful people. And we fail to notice those who are suffering. If we live with this type of ingore-ance we are less able to help those around us who could use some help. And our ignor-ance causes us to THINK more about the beauty in our lives, rather than experience it wholeheartedly.  Through meditation we cultivate compassion and peaceful joy.   Questions?
