A Community Experience: Building Capacity to Dismantle Systemic Racism
Jubilee Three Anti-Racism Workshop with Akron and Ohio UU Partners

January 12-14, 2024

We here at The UU Church of Akron are hosting a Jubilee weekend session with Paula Cole Jones partnering with experienced UU trainers Dr. Leon Spencer and Lutricia Callair, on MLK weekend, January 12-14, 2024.    We have invited every UU in Ohio to join us!

The cost to attend Jubilee is $170 ($85 for second person in household).  However, we do not want anyone to miss out on this opportunity to bring us all closer together in this work.  So, when you register (link below), if you can cover the whole fee, great!  If you cannot, then pay what you can and the 8th Principle Team will use all collected funds to apply for a Wilson grant match to cover the balance.  Any amount you can contribute helps bring someone else along.  It takes a village!

If you would like to have the Wilson Grant supplement the fee, when filling out registration formcomplete #1-6, #8 if registering an additional person, and in #9 enter the amount you are able to cover.

On May 17, 2020, our congregation adopted the 8th Principle.

“We, the member congregations of the Unitarian Universalist Association, covenant to affirm and promote: journeying toward spiritual wholeness by working to build a diverse multicultural Beloved Community by our actions that accountably dismantle racism and other oppressions in ourselves and our institutions.”

Our charge is to work with all aspects of UUCA congregational ministries to develop and facilitate transformative opportunities and experiences consistent with the values of the 8th Principle by engaging with individuals and groups, UUCA committees, including finance and governance. Read our Resolution and commitment to living out the 8th Principle.

The Transformation Team consists of those that have attended Jubilee Anti-Racism Training.   Currently we are building programs and creating opportunities to move us into being an Anti-Racist, multicultural church meeting the needs of our community.

Planning is underway for the next Jubilee Anti-Racism training as well as additional educational and inspirational programming.  Keep your eye on our Reporter and emails.  If you have any questions or what to know how you can be involved contact the Transformation Team.
