Embracing an Attitude of Gratitude

Our generosity and willingness to act for social justice has made a name for the UUCA – the UU Church of Action. It’s a name we can all be proud of and one that reflects our spirit of trying to create a more just world.

Our congregation’s numerous missions would not be possible without the physical UUCA building, UUCA staff and operations. Our generosity flows from our ability to sustain and maintain the Unitarian Universalist Church of Akron.

As a new church year begins, a newly-formed stewardship committee is exploring ways to nurture a culture of generosity. The members are James Beuoy, Bay Gaillard, Janet Griffing-LaBonne, Linda Hale, Gloria Irwin, Deb Johnson, Sandy Kidd and Willow Mattison. Get to know a little about us here!

As we approach our annual pledge drive, we ask members to take some time to reflect on what they value at UUCA and what makes them feel grateful. Is it knowing that we provide a monthly meal to hungry people in our community? Is it the task force that works toward racial justice or one of the other outreach missions to the LGBTQIA+ community, immigrants, environmental protection, to name a few. Is it the Sunday sermons, the music program, the education programs for children and teens, or other activities?

To explore an attitude of gratitude, the committee has planned Sunday testimonials, a kickoff event and an end-of-drive celebration. The full breadth of what we can accomplish next year depends on the success of our pledge drive.

The committee recognizes that our congregation is facing challenges and needs to heal internal divisions. We also know that some people may not be able to afford to pledge financial resources to the church.

Those challenges aside, we hope you will consider all that you have to be grateful for at UUCA and give as generously as you are able. The UUCA greatly appreciates your offering, no matter its size.
