The UUCA Board of Trustees is pleased to introduce Bree Chambers as our new Communications Coordinator!
Bree is a playwright, organizer, and third year art therapy student at Capital University, with an impressive resume. Some highlights include:
*Guest speaker at Ohio Black Women’s Leadership Caucus – Akron’s 37th Annual Scholarship Luncheon *Elected Speaker of the Senate in Capital University’s Student Government *And in 2020, completed an independent study on Black worship music and its potential for therapy. The abstract entitled, “I’ve Got a Feeling: Comparing and Integrating Black Church Musicality and Traditional Music Therapy” was accepted to Capital University’s 24th Annual Symposium on Undergraduate Research
Bree is also a dedicated volunteer and skilled organizer. She is the co-founder and elected president of Akron Minority Council, a social justice and civic engagement advocacy group formed in May, 2020.
In that short time, she has led the group to over 1700 followers on social media, organized numerous events, and engaged hundreds of local people and community stakeholders. She was also recently appointed to the Education Subcommittee of the City of Akron’s Racial Equity and Social Justice Task Force.
In addition to these credentials, the search committee was impressed by Bree’s eagerness to work in an organization focused on progressive action, and the enthusiasm she has for expressing UU values to our wider community. Communicating and sharing our truth as well as our deeds through media and engagement is crucial to ensuring our church weathers the pandemic, and continues to grow.
We are looking forward to the gifts Bree will share with us as Communications Coordinator.
Congratulations Bree!
