Bliss Bestowed Hands – May 2023

It was a year ago this month that UUCA voted to call me as your minister. It was then, and continues to be, a deep honor which I am proud to accept. It was the culmination of a process of discernment around my career, my relationship with my boys, and connections with my family. Coming here has allowed all of the things that were dreams then, to come to pass in reality. I have been able to watch my oldest son throw shot put, and next fall…Matthew starts football!

And so it seems petty to complain about something that isn’t anyone’s fault: I still haven’t had a chance to preach in the Sanctuary! I got a tour of it at the time. I’ve been in there to be sure, and the building people will tell you that I am not short on opinions. Yet it eludes me…I have not worshiped in that space; ever. That is a significant experience that most of you have had, and I have not. This saddens me.

However, I have had the pleasure of meeting with our new Level Up! Fundraising Taskforce for the past couple of weeks. They have a compelling and urgent vision to share. Going back into the Sanctuary, together as one congregation, has the potential into heal the wounds of the past and the present. Our sacred space connects us to each other and to those who have gone before us. It is the space that has contained so many significant events in the life of our congregation. That is its purpose, and it shall do so again in the very near future.

Which brings me to Commitment Sunday on May 21st . I will lead a service i which we will all pledge together, at the same time, during the worship service itself. We will collect the pledges for the effort to get us back into our beloved sanctuary. Just come to church on May 21 – I may have a surprise or two waiting for you!
May You Be Blessed Always,
Rev. Dr. Josh Snyder
