President’s Message-December

Dear Fellow Congregants,

I hope you are enjoying your holidays and able to spend time with those you love. I am looking forward to the holiday season with my UUCA family. It has been lovely to see some of your faces on Sundays, and not just the top half! I’m also glad that those who are not yet comfortable dropping the masks, are feeling free to put them on. I had a mask on last week, and a fellow congregant quietly reached in her pocket and put hers on, I think to help me feel more at ease. I told her I mostly had mine to put others at ease, because while I was fully out of the contagious phase of my latest illness, I was still coughing a few times an hour, and didn’t want to worry anyone. This is exactly how it should go in our pandemic maintenance phase- she did her best to be kind and considerate to me, and I was trying to do the same for the comfort of the congregation.

I want to reiterate a few things – PLEASE stay HOME if you are not feeling well. If you have been sick for over a week, you’re fever-free, and you’re improving, you’re probably fine to attend church. But if you think “I’m just getting a cold,” and in normal times you would just carry on and go everywhere, I urge you to re-examine that thinking. We are in the midst of what some are calling a Triple-demic. COVID is still around, flu is surging, and RSV is everywhere as well. You will be welcomed on Zoom if you decide to stay home. This is what our caring community is all about. And don’t forget to stay on top of those COVID boosters and annual flu shots!

Our congregational meeting is this month on the 18th after services. We’ll be putting our budget up for review, and I’m sorry to say things are looking more than tight for next year. We are projecting a budget deficit, and obviously that is not sustainable. If you haven’t pledged yet, please consider how committed you are to maintaining the health and future of our church community. How has the church served you over your time here? Which of our missions inspire you? Please feel free to reach out to me or another board member if you have questions about how the money is used, or what’s going on at a leadership level.

Be sure to check out our upcoming display in the hall between Hannah and the restrooms, describing our phase of progress in sanctuary renovation plans, and visuals to help you imagine the future.

Warm holiday wishes to you all.
Cordially,
Libby Archinal, President of The Board of Trustees
