UUCA Foundation
At a Congregational Meeting in 2002 members of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Akron established the Unitarian Universalist Church of Akron Foundation to support the Church. The Foundation is an independent non-profit under 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Foundation Board of Directors (see below) oversee and direct the Foundation’s investments, in consultation with our investment advisor, and authorize distributions to the Church under the terms of the various funds that make up the assets of the Foundation.
Investment Objectives and Structure of Portfolio
The Foundation has a long-term growth investment objective with provision to support annual Distributions to the church in amounts authorized for the various funds. Weightings for our investment classes are adjusted over time according to established guidelines for institutional investments.
The Foundation has two primary objectives:
1. To be good stewards of the funds entrusted to the Foundation for the benefit of the Church, protecting and growing the Foundation’s assets while staying true to our values as Unitarian Universalists.
2. To distribute funds to the church to support the operating and capital needs of the church based on clear formulas consistent with management of endowment funds and direction that might be provided by the creators of specific funds.
Socially Responsible Investing
The investment portfolio contains several socially responsible mutual fund investments. Also, in the recent past, the Board has taken action with its investment advisor to remove all fossil fuel securities from the portfolio. The revenue from these divestitures has been invested in renewable energy securities.
