In Solidarity

Miranda Dobbins, UUCA member, she/her

I stand on behalf of the pride committee, and in solidarity with our transgender friends in the community and beyond. Did you know UUCA has a new trans zine available as a resource?  What is a “zine” and  why is it so important? “Zine” is a shortened word for magazine, and it is simply a self-published booklet. This zine was written specifically for our church, UUCA, by a professional zine-creator based out of Chicago, who is a trans individual themselves. We have two versions available.  We have a mini-zine that’s free for anyone.  You will find a few key definitions under the transgender umbrella and a small number of resources.  We also have a more comprehensive, full-length zine called the Transgender Information and Resource Guide.

The Transgender Information and Resource Guide is only $5, and funds will g0 in support of our Opening Doors, LGBTQIA+ fund to support the Pride committee. It is packed with definitions within the transgender umbrella, an anecdote from the author, myths and facts to help dispel the misinformation being spread by our current administration, and tons of local resources for trans people. The zine will be available at coffee hour as we lead up to the Akron Pride March, Saturday, August 22.  So stop by and pick up one for you and one to share.  We will also have them available at our booth at Akron Pride along with many other goodies!.  Come march with us and stop by the booth the say hi and revel in the beauty that is our trans community in Akron!
